A Drink, A Ritual, A Thousand Years of Florida Tradition…
Spanish colonists began drinking Yaupon Tea in Florida as early as AD 1513. Timucua Indians consumed it for thousands of years. They discovered Yaupon Asi Tea. Now, it’s your turn. Beginning perhaps thousands of years ago, the Timucua natives of Florida, along with many other tribes, brewed a sacred beverage from the roasted leaves and stems of the Yaupon Holly. They called this drink “Asi”, or “the purifier.” The resulting beverage was a powerful elixir of caffeine and antioxidants, and it came to be a cornerstone of hopewellian civilization. With the arrival of Europeans, the Yaupon ritual slowly died out, and the once mighty Yaupon assumed an inconspicuous place in the forest. Until now… Yaupon Asi Tea , L.L.C. was founded to bring Yaupon back to modern consumers.
Yaupon is a plant in the Holly family, or the genus ilex. Yaupon only grows in the Southeastern United States, mostly in coastal regions. It is native to the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas. Small populations may also exist in Arkansas. Yaupon is most prolific in Texas and Florida. Yaupon Asi Tea is grown in Central Florida, United States, mostly in Coastal Maritime Forests. Yaupon is closely related to the South American Hollies, Yerba Mate and Guayusa. Currently, our company is the World’s only supplier of certified organic Yaupon Tea.

YES! Yaupon is extremely rich in the antioxidants Quercetin and Saponin, and it’s being studied extensively for it’s supposed anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. We market our Yaupon as a food, not a drug, but it is an excellent complement to a healthy lifestyle.
YES! Most people deeply enjoy the smooth and mild flavor of Yaupon Asi Tea. Unlike other teas, Yaupon contains little to no Tannin, so it’s never bitter. Yaupon also possesses a slight, natural sweetness. Most describe unroasted Yaupon as “smooth, grassy, and slightly sweet”, with our fire-roasted varieties being described as slightly more intense, with their oolong-like smokiness. Yaupon is a great hot or iced, and takes very well to blending.
